The church was built in 1633 by order of Tjaerd van Aylva to replace a church from the 13th century that was irreparably damaged by bad weather in 1631 with the exception of the gable roof tower. The tower burned down in 1661. This was replaced by a spire tower, but demolished in 1819. The ship received a three-sided closure on both sides and in the center an eight-sided roof rider with a dome with two clocks, a small clock from 1433 and a large one from 1656 by Jurjen Balthasar.
The interior is covered by a wooden barrel vault. The furniture mainly dates from 1683, such as thirteen women’s sofas and a raised men’s sofa. The organ from 1855 was built by L. van Dam and Sons and restored in 1964 by Bakker & Timmenga. The baptismal font from 1966 was made by Jan Murk de Vries.
